Principles
What is a charity? Who are the charity trustees?
Context
The Society for Endocrinology is a charity, regulated by the Charity Commission. Its legal form is that of a "charitable company, limited by guarantee".
Because the Society is a charity and a company, it must comply with both charity law and company law. It should also follow Charity Commission guidance.
This section of the website explains what a charity is, and what this means for the Society's Trustees.
The Resources section of the website contains extra information which we hope will be helpful, eg links to legislation and downloadable guidance from the Charity Commission.
Charity law is wide-ranging, covering all aspects of running a charity.
This website would be unmanageably huge if we tried to include everything, so we have picked out the most relevant elements here.

Some of it might be dry reading, and we know that Members have extremely busy working lives.
So the summary below is intended to help Members understand the reasons behind the governance changes proposed by the Trustees.
