SfE future governance
Thank you for showing an interest in the Society's governance.
What is this about?
The Society's Trustees would like to make some changes to how the Society is governed. Some of these were identified by the Trustees themselves, and some were proposed during a Governance Review carried out between xxxx.
The Trustees set up a Working Group to develop these proposals. The Working Group is:
- xxx
- xxx
- xxx
The Working Group is supported by:
xxx
Lucy Devine, the College's governance adviser. Lucy is a chartered governance professional.
What are the objectives?
- Update and simplify the Articles of Assocation, and correct inconsistencies
- Make the Society's governance more efficient and effective
- Support the Society's volunteers (e.g., Trustees, people on Committees)
- Clarify Fellow and Member rights
- Make it easier for Fellows and Members to hold Society management to account
Why is Council asking for your input?
The Society is a membership organisation, and Fellows and Members are at the heart of what the Society does. The Trustees can propose changes to the Articles of Association, but only the Fellows and Members can approve them. This is a fundamental, unchanging part of Society governance.
Later xxxx, the Trustees will formally ask for your approval to the changes, at an EGM or AGM. Therefore, during XXX we would like to understand what you think about the first draft of the proposals. We will then use your feedback to improve the proposals before we bring them back to you at the AGM or at an EGM later in the year.
What is the timeline for this work?
